Midstate Mechanical is looking to fill permanent full-time positions for Shop Fabricators. As a member of our growing Commercial HVAC Trades-Focused Crews, you will, among other responsibilities:

  • Assist the Shop Foreman with the fabrication and pre-fabrication of HVAC duct systems.
  • Fabrication in all areas of the Sheet Metal shop as directed;                                                                                                            Coil Line & Fitting Assembly, Roll Form, Liner, and Turning Vane & Hardware.
  • Read and interrupt duct labels for material processes.
  • Possess all tools to perform work assigned.
  • Verify and confirm all shop cut sheets with the proper fabrication specifications and processes.
  • Meet and excel production goals set by the Shop Foreman.
  • Knowledge and ability to use all related Sheetmetal Fabrication equipment

Pre-Fab Process

  • Assist in the pre-fabrication of HVAC duct systems as directed by Shop Foreman
  • Build HVAC duct systems by the reading of blueprints and coordinating fabrication components to CAD/manual takeoffs
  • Meet and excel prefabrication goals set by the Shop Manager.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties as directed.
  • Attend all Sheet Metal Shop safety and production meetings as required
  • Follow all Midstate Mechanical employee and safety procedures
  • Communicate in a professional manner with co-workers and office personnel.
  • Keep track of daily shop inventory by tracking material used

To be considered: High school diploma or GED preferred, you must be able to lift and/or carry heavy, bulky supplies, materials and other items weighing up to 80 pounds, climb ladders and utilize your own standard hand tools. POSITION PURPOSE

To ensure a safe working environment; promote safety; prevent personal injury and loss; ensure compliance with OHSA safety codes and regulations; develop and maintain records for safety training for Midstate employees; conduct job site and office facility safety audits; be involved in safety counselling of employees when there are violations to Midstate safety policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION AND BASIC DUTIES

Conduct accident and injury investigations, post-accident drug protocol

Have knowledge of all required OSHA programs, OSHA 10, 30 and 500.

Analyze safety issues on job sites and the Midstate office facility

Develop and maintain a safety budget

Evaluate General Contractor and subcontractor safety programs

Review, modify, and maintain hazardous material handling program, SDS management

Review, modify and maintain an Exposure Control Plan and Hazard Communication Program

Review, modify and maintain back to work programs to reduce total loss man-hours and greatly improve productivity, efficiency, and profitability

Conduct Safety/OSHA educational group workshops

Enforce pollution prevention activities and environmental health and safety procedures

Evaluate job site safety characteristics

Review, modify, and maintain a “working in heat” safety awareness program

Review, modify, and maintain a ladder safety program

Monitor the loss prevention and history analysis

Evaluate, modify, and maintain the Midstate PPE selection, use, and maintenance

Provide job site safety inspections and audits with a follow up report

Provide safety training: company, site, and trade specific programs

Provide Safety Regulations research when necessary

Conduct Company safety and policy orientations

Facilitate interaction with workman’s comp insurance provider(s)

Conduct safety behavioral training

Facilitate regular safety meetings and other safety programs

Develop Site Specific Safety Plans for all Midstate projects

Act as a liaison between field staff and the CFO for all safety matters

To be considered:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of applicable Federal, state and local statutes, rules, regulations, codes, ordinances and other governing requirements.

Skill in developing and presenting a variety of training programs, curriculum and materials

Knowledge of Worker’s Compensation laws and claims management processes.

Well organized, accurate and attentive to detail. Excellent Communication skills and public relation abilities. Ability to assist and support others as needed.

Must be able to pass a background check and carry a fingerprint card.

Special licenses required including but not limited to confined space training, OSHA 10, OSHA 30, OSHA 500 Trainer Certification, First aid/CPR, etc.

Under general supervision, undertakes and performs a variety of high level job site observation, evaluation, assessment, and training-related functions associated with the Midstate Mechanical Safety Program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

Responds to reports of incidents, accidents and other safety-related concerns

Conducts accident investigations, post accident drug program review, and other overall to job site specific issues

Takes photographs and videos, develops sketches/drawings, and/or performs other recording activities as assigned.

Interviews witnesses, observers, and others regarding incidents/activities

Develops, writes, and presents findings, conclusions and results of investigations

Proposes, as required, additional training programs, procedures, policies or other items needed resulting from an investigation

Conducts unscheduled and/or regular walk through inspections of project job sites.

Develops and/or provides training on general and/or specific safety subjects

Conducts regularly scheduled and/or unscheduled safety audits.

Provides updates and reports on safety efforts and results to Safety/Risk Manager.

Evaluates and communicates safety procedures to Midstate field employees.

Conducts and/or participates in site-specific weekly safety meetings and pre-task planning efforts (PTP) or job hazard analysis (JHA)

Evaluates effectiveness of tool box talks and makes recommendations.

Inspects job site PPE and other work related tools and equipment for proper suitability for use.

Identifies and recommends enhancements to current job site safety topics

Develops training curriculum and/or identifies/recommends outside training resources

As assigned, provides input and assistance in budget development, purchases, and procurement

Assumes responsibility, as assigned, for specific safety programs, activities, and details.

Any other job or project related assignments that may be necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A high school diploma or equivalent and at least two (2) years of recent, relevant experience conducting safety audits, inspections, job site analysis, safety program development/presentation or any combination of education and experience from which essential function duties will have been obtained.

Knowledge of basic applicable Federal, state and local statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances, codes and other governing requirements

Knowledge of intermediate to advanced principles, trends and practices in job site safety and security

Knowledge of Occupational Safety Hazard Act (OSHA) requirements, OSHA 10, 30.

Knowledge of trade worker education and training practices, approaches, and requirements.

Responsible for sheet metal, piping, plumbing and small project department purchases at the most competitive and effective job costing pricing. All purchases must be coordinated with respective field superintendents, and project managers. Establish and maintain effective working relationship with suppliers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

  • Coordinate pricing with project managers and estimate for assigned large  purchases.
  • Purchase supplies, materials, equipment and other items required to support all trades, project-specific needs and requirements
  • Directly negotiate best price information and quotes
  • Conduct cost analysis to determine best-price suppliers
  • Solicit and evaluate competitive pricing from several pricing sources
  •  Assist estimating in pricing structure when required.
  • Maintain on-going relationships with suppliers on a job/yearly basis to develop and promote strong business relationships
  • Update accounts and price list changes per yearly quote.
  • Maintain and update all pricing structures in one or more documents, reports, records and/or files
  • Identify and recommend vendor to utilize on a project-by-project basis
  • Attend monthly project and staff meetings to outline/discuss purchasing accounts and related information.
  • Coordinate shipping and delivery of all materials with suppliers.
  • Monitor materials delivery to determine compliance to established timelines and timeframes
  • Maintain on-going purchasing, needs and materials timelines, inventories and schedules to anticipate bid schedule requirements
  • Coordinate and maintain all shop inventories with shipping & receiving clerk.
  • Process and file a variety of purchase orders, backorders and related materials
  • Work with office and field staff as required
  • Run an open PO report each month. Remove all old PO balances.
  • Assemble and update, as appropriate, a material supply book to be used as a proper product type reference for all foremen.
  • Coordinate and monitor all accounting deadline dates
  • Prepare & present a variety of written and/or oral regularly scheduled and/or ad hoc financial, statistical, narrative & related reports
  • Work on multiple projects & assignments
  • Input, update & maintain records, logs & related documents
  • Utilize a variety of standard office and specialized software applications

QUALIFICATIONS:  High school diploma or GED AND at least four (4) years of recent, relevant experience as a Purchasing Agent, Purchasing Assistant or closely related responsibilities OR any combination of education and/or recent, relevant experience to perform the job duties of this position.
